Did you know that snowshoeing is one of the oldest forms of transportation in human history? Humans have been using snowshoes for over 6,000 years. They are still a great way to get out, get some exercise, go to places you can't go at other times of the year and enjoy our winter scenery. Skishoes are a newer type of equipment that combines the glide of XC skis with the flotation of snowshoes. Both are like 4WD in the snow in that they allow you to go anywhere without needing a groomed trail.
This free family-friendly event is designed to teach newcomers about snowshoeing/skishoeing and to give them an opportunity to try it out. Also, join us for a longer Guided Wildlife Tracking Trek at 1:00 pm at Hubbell Pond Wildlife Management Area/North Country Trail trailhead parking area (36167 St. Hwy 34, Detroit Lakes MN 56501). Look for North Country Trail access signs.
